Application Procedures
The workshop is primarily aimed at local authorities and other relevant local actors responsible for World Heritage properties, Biosphere Reserves, UNESCO Creative Cities, and elements inscribed in the UNESCO Lists and Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Special attention will be paid to “multiple designated areas”, i.e. local territories hosting more than one UNESCO designation.
Selected applicants from these categories may be eligible to receive some financial support for the coverage of their participation costs, if the criteria detailed in the “Subsidized participants” section, below, are met.
Other practitioners, such as scholars/researchers, can also apply based on the conditions indicated in the “Other Participants” section.
A maximum of 25 applicants will be selected.
Applications will only be considered and reviewed if complete requested information and documents are received with application.

The access to the forms of support is limited to representatives of local authorities and other relevant local actors concerned with the management and/or safeguarding of World Heritage properties, Biosphere Reserves, UNESCO Creative Cities, Global Geoparks Network and elements inscribed in the UNESCO Lists and Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Special attention will be paid to “multiple designated areas”, i.e. local territories hosting more than one UNESCO designation.
Priority in subsidy consideration will be given to participants from the countries that are listed within the geographical coverage of the Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe namely: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Turkey.
Two different kinds of support can be provided:

Exemption from participation fee and provision of free accommodation
A maximum of 20 participants may be exempted from the participation fee and provided with free board and lodging, for the duration of the workshop.

Provision of free travel
A tentative amount of 10 to 15 participants may receive support for free travel (depending on the overall amount of travel costs, the final amount having to be commensurate with available funds).
The two forms of support can be cumulative.

Selection criteria:

Relevance of the motivation with respect to the workshop’s topic and objectives (rated on a 1 to 5 scale by the workshop’s scientific committee)
The motivation letter shall include:
i. a short presentation of the related UNESCO designation(s)
ii. an explanation of why the knowledge to be gathered during the workshop will be of use for the applicant in terms of one or more of the following: improved understanding of the subjects at hand; contribution to the implementation of on-going activities for the management and/or safeguarding of the mentioned UNESCO designation(s); definition of future activities to enhance cultural and natural resources for sustainable development.

Scholars, researchers, or other interested practitioners can also apply to participate in the workshop. Participants under this category will be charged a participation fee of 1,500€, which includes the provision of board and lodging for the duration of the workshop. Selected participants will be expected to bear their own travel costs.
